You may have heard that there are workforce development “programs out there” and don’t know who to contact. Well, check back here regularly because we’ll be adding more video introductions to leaders who are running manufacturing initiatives, and this is your special invitation to virtually meet them and reach out! Collectively, these programs are aimed at swelling the ranks of qualified manufacturers building careers in Connecticut, as well as stable businesses prepared to hire, train and mentor them.

Description: Connecticut’s first Chief Manufacturing Officer Colin H. Cooper sends this message to the ManufactureCT community as retires from his position. For the past 2+ years Colin’s collaboration with the private and public sectors has resulted in a number of initiatives and investments that will strengthen the manufacturing industry in Connecticut for years to come. Governor Ned Lamont has appointed Paul Lavoie as the new Chief Manufacturing Officer of Connecticut.

Program description: Skill Up for Manufacturing is a 5-7 week course designed to train entry level adult candidates who want a manufacturing career on the fundamentals employers need.

REV Up! is designed to support Connecticut manufacturers by providing wage subsidies and customized training for new hires that have been unemployed, underemployed and adversely impacted by COVID. Qualified companies are eligible for up to 16 weeks of wage subsidies for qualified new hires, retroactive to July 1, 2021. A limited pool of prescreened REV-Up! candidates is available. REV-Up! also offers additional technology funding and an Employer Mentor bonus program.

ApprenticeshipWorks provides training to address the shortage of skilled workers in the manufacturing and healthcare sectors, and prepares workers to enter apprenticeships and employment. The program creates pipelines for high school students and adults. Trainees receive access to career coaching and exploration, workforce readiness training, resume, interview, and job search assistance, occupational training and certifications as well as supportive services at no-cost.
